Welcome back to The JD Fix, where we take job descriptions from meh to magnetic. Today’s episode, JD… or Just Disaster?
In this episode, I did something a little fun (and painful). I asked ChatGPT to generate the worst job posting it could dream up. What it gave me was hilariously—and heartbreakingly—real. The kind of description you’ve probably seen out in the wild: full of jargon, formatting chaos, “top school” bias, no salary info, and enough underlines to make your eyes twitch.
Why This Matters
Messy job descriptions aren’t just an inconvenience—they actively drive candidates away. Especially the ones you want to hire. Whether it’s exclusionary language (like “native English speaker”), unclear role expectations, or just a lack of structure, bad JDs create bad candidate experiences.
And if your job postings don’t reflect the values, clarity, and inclusivity of your company? You’re going to miss out on incredible people.
The JD Makeover: What I Did
I dropped our fictional disaster into the Text Analyzer—our AI-powered job posting editor at Ongig—and watched the magic unfold:
Formatting fix: Section headers were automatically added (no more wall-of-text nightmares).
Bias reduction: Phrases like “champion” or “top school” were flagged and suggested for change.
Grammar, spelling, structure: Cleaned up in seconds.
Missing info alerts: Like salary, location, and what candidates actually care about.
The result? A polished, inclusive, easy-to-read JD with a 90%+ score and all the core sections candidates expect.
What You Can Do (Without Losing Your Mind)
If you’re still editing job descriptions in Word docs, stressing about legal compliance, or waiting for five rounds of approvals—don’t panic. You’re not alone. But there is a better way.
With tools like Text Analyzer, you can:
✅ Apply custom templates to standardize voice and format
✅ Flag problematic language before it hits your careers page
✅ Use AI to suggest edits—but keep your human touch
✅ Easily collaborate, assign, and approve within your JD library
✅ Export to your ATS (Greenhouse, Workday, Lever—you name it)
If this job posting breakdown made you cringe, laugh, or think “We’re doing the exact same thing,” you’re not alone. And it’s fixable.
Listen to the full episode for a walkthrough, or drop me a note if you’d like a free JD audit. You can also head to ongig.com and request a demo.
Because job descriptions shouldn’t be disasters.
Until next time—happy hiring.
